Blog of the first. BSG-21 and why i am here

Well here i am, 1 year into Second Life and what a Crappy year it has been.

Ok i admit it, i have met some intreasting people and have got into some really nice groups and events based in Second Life, but the flip side of the coin really hasnt made it worth it.

Dont get me wrong, Secoond Life is a fantastic tool to bring people and ideas together and help everyone get along in a real and virtual world either to reach out and say hello to someone or to have some fun.

Both of which, i have had not much luck with.

I am an avid RPG fan and a series of groups in Second life really peaked my intreast. One day me and a friend decided to start our on RPG sim based on the new series of battlestar Galactica, just as somthing to do and have a good time making and sharing our love of the series with other like minded people. The 1st month went really well, got alot of talant in and people wanting to participate in SL's 2nd BSG sim, BSG-47 being the first, and we really got cracking. BSG-21 was born.

As soon as things started to slowly get going, thats when things started to go wrong. A minor disagrement here, a comment there really turned nasty. I have disagreements with people, but everyone i have disagreed with knows its for a valid point and i correct myself if proven worng. Unfortunatly not everyone is like that. After the 1st month, the Admin team and head builder decided to fall out completly and she ends up leaving along with a few others. The sim looses a few players and a good builder and I loose a good friend. Never the less we carried on. Again another comment here another remark there, another good friend of mine dissapears only this time, it was a deliberate attack on here.

Naturally being pissed off about the whole thing, i become a "one-man linch mob" and begin poking and proding the BSG-21 community, being a part owner gave me the right before you ask. Eventually another friend of mine logged on and after telling him what had happend, in so many words to my disgust, "Yeah i know and i hope the other two leave soon aswell" (didnt go like this but to avoid certain rules and regulations, im trying to keep names out of this for now), and so i gave up my share of the sim and left.

Not long after, my good friend and collegue got me back into the sim as i wanted to give it another go and help out with problems they were having with budget and Euro time zone Roleplay. Really did try to get the ball rolling but logging onto an empty sim at peak Euro times and getting no reply to calls on open chat, really didnt boost my moral, nor did the numerous attempts at asking for a list of Euro members so i can properly group them and send them all out of SL messages to try and start somthing off.

That was strike 3 and i decided to leave once more with little gained and alot lost.

I suppose really, i want to know why people cant get along? You go to a social gathering in real life and talk to someone you might get on well with or you may not. But if you disagree about somthing, it does not blow up like i have just mentiond does it?

Roleplay in Second life is more or less on hold for me at the time being, so blogging and more second life Flickr photos will have to do for now.

More to follow, FREAK OUT!
